The Copco No. 1 dam, the last of four dams in the Klamath River hydroelectric reach, was successfully blasted, marking a significant step in the river's restoration. The removal aims to open up hundreds of miles of habitat, benefiting water quality and native fish. While short-term negative impacts on fish are expected due to increased sediment turbidity, long-term advantages are anticipated. Restoration efforts, including planting native vegetation along the riverbanks, will follow as the focus shifts to enhancing the ecosystem in the Upper Klamath Basin.
